My appologies to all it has been far to long since ive updated our website or our myspace page & there is so much to tell We just got home from a 3 week tour with our homies Rahim (french kiss records ) which took us out to the west coast.I didnt do a very good job of documenting the tour as far as the tour diary goes however im going to try to recollect it as best i can.

The first day of the tour started In iowa city at Gabes Oasis where we had the chance to catch up with our homie Kevin he the singer of an awesome band called The Tanks & My friend Molly who i met on or last tour when passing through with The Go Go Go Airheart & Subtitle unfortunately Molly & Kev where the only ones spreading the word as there was a total of about 7 people at the show Despite the slim turn out both us & Rahim managed to kill it . Afterwards we drove to Mollys and got into some chill-laxin while whatching reruns of Pee Wees Playhouse The next morning we stopped by Kevins & had a gigantic breakfast before we hit the road thus setting the regiment for the rest of the tour :drive drive drive ,set up ,play to like 5 people ,kill it ,lolly-gag ,eat wake up & repeat

The next day we made our way to Lawrence KS to do our thing at The Replay. Now the last time i remember playing in Lawrence was when i was playing bass with AM-FM & i jumped off stage & beat up a heckkler who kept yelling & wiping boogers on the stage but this trip to KS was far less eventfull there was no jumping of stage to beat up anyone because there was no one there to heckkle us once again we played to a room of about 10 people but once again we killed it as did our tourmates Rahim One might find it easy to get bummed when your gving your all to 5 or 10 people every night but it comes with the territory when your 2 virtually unknown indie bands but its quite allright because from what i hear in Brazil we are as popular as Michael Jackson. That night we stayed at a buddies house & woke up super early so we could begin our zillion hour drive to Colorodo

Colorodo was the fuckin Jump off we played at a place called the HiDive in Denver & it was packed. But before the show we had time to kill i couldnt pass up an oportunity to get my fight on while in the city that invented the U.F.C. (ultamate fighting champion)for thoseof you that dont know im a huge brazillian jiu jitsu & no holds barred sport fighting enthusiast so i trained for a little bit over at the Easton Jiu Jitsu studio & got tossed around by a few of their blackbelts it was a great session i went back & we played the show we killed it as did rahim & the local rockers monofog after the show we hung out at a friends house shared some good conversation & beers then hit the hey preparing for our trip to salt lake city

the drive to salt lake was beautiful & the venue was cool it was a place called kilby court unfortunately once agian it was a very poorly attaended show After the show we stayed with a guy named KJ, who played the show. We gave him a ride the next day out to Twin Falls, Idaho, a stop on our way to Seattle. KJ showed us the falls and took us out to a hidden swimming hole where kids were cliff jumping we couldnt resist & it was fucking amazing !!!!! the sensation of jumping off a cliff from about 40 ft into the murky green water was phenominal

Seattle was very cool we played with two very fun bands Madraso & Hair & teeth we linked up with an old buddy of mine pete ochester who set up a party for me to spin it madrasso had a barbeque the singer of hair & teeth turned out to be a former nhb fighter so on top of eating some kick ass bbq i got to train with him on the lawn for a while as his cute girlfriend watched & got turned on by the latent homsexuality of 2 grown ass men trying to out-hug each other on the lawn we went swimming with pete ,his roomate arron & our new eastern european lady friend dunya at her parents apartment complex needless to say we kept ourselves busy in seattle

portland was wierd but fun we played in a diy type venue in an all white room which made for a great photos after the show we caught up with my fellow dj friends Cosmo baker ,DJAyers ,& A track who were spinning up the street it was great to see them portland is a beautiful town once again we had a hell of a drive so after we said our goodbyes we got on the road that night & headed strait to san fran

San fran was a blast we played a cool show in a venue called the hemlock with a tortise-esque band called the drift who killed it we ended up staying at Sonny Kay's (who runs gsl ) moms house his mom was great & was so accustomed to having bands crash at her cute little Oakland crib that she had an addition added to the house with guest be"she said "one night i had a bunch of them staying with me & i said to myself where is Omar & i found him in the basemnt by himself in a dank dark corner playing guitar so i decided to have this guest area added " man & i thought my mom was cool thanks Christine !!! the following day our show got cancelled so we decided to stick around in sf we hit a few bars wher i ironicly enough ran into a bunch of old philly bike messanger buddies then went across town to catch up with cosmo ,ayers & a track again who i forgot to mention killed it both nights after teh party we ended up staying with my frined Sydneys parents house (Sydney is Cosmos wife) we got the following morning hit it we were off to san luis obispo

SLO was a lot of fun it was an all day festival with with a lot of cool ass bands playing both us & Rahim killed it you can see photos here
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v466/newnoise/Garden%20Party/
after the show i was in a hurry to get to LA becasue i had friends flying out to meet up with us we got to LA & we stayed with Ikee Owens (of the mars volta )
in long beach right outside of LA Ikee was a fantastic host he took us to the ill eating spots & to an very cool low key party at a house dubbed "rancho relaxo " the next morning we got up & drove to LA to play our show at teh echo it was a pretty good show & i met some really cool young guys before we played who accompanied me to the nearby record store the show itself was pretty cool except it ended on a bad note when i realized i left my laptop fortunately Tim from GSl grabbed it for me thanks a million tim your a life saver. that night we played an additional last minute show back in LBC with Ikees band Free Moral Agents who by the way where fuckin awesome !!! despite this show being a last minute thing it happend to be one of the best shows of the tour & we owe it all to Ikee i love LA & i really love the LBC

next day we were off to pheonix deja vu we played another poorly attended show in a very cool venue to a small but enthusiastic crowd i was hoping to cath up with Cosmo & company afterwards since they were spinning that night in pheonix as well but but instead we caught up with our main man bob & his lovely lady ashley in there appartment complex complete with pool & grill it was paradise !!!! wechilled there for 2 days of non stop relaxation & lots of grillin ,fish & burgers bob & asheley were fantastic hosts after that it was off to fort worth

FT Worth was fuckin hot !!! literaly the show was medocre at best on top of the standard low turn out theme we started teh set with a beavy of technical difficulties which set the pace for the 1st half of the set it was a bummer but we met a really nice guy named josh who put us up & showed me alittle bit of nightlife in ft worth the next day we went to see the new xmen movie which in my educated comic nerd opinion was quite a dissapointment did any of you guys see it what did you think ? anyway we spent one more night at josh's woke up had brunch at a pretty nice vegan diner then bounced for Denton

Denton was fun we played with the joggers who weve played with before they were great the show was actually pretty damn fun we played well & made up for our last travesty , everyone that played that night did a great job we stayed with some really nice kids who had this cool little ranch style house we got up the next morning & bounced for Oklahoma city only to find the show was cancelled so we stopped got coffe dinner & bounced back to chicago where we played the offical last show of the tour whic was packed to the gills it was good to be home

over all this tour was a lot of fun on the extra carricular tip but sucked as far as the majority of show situations went it would be very discuraging if it werent for the fact that the few people that did come see us seemed to be pretty excited about both bands so thanks to everyone that came to check us out supprted us, hung out with us & put us up also thanks to Rahim they were fantastic tour mates & are a great band id love to go out with them again that about does it for the Rahim Jai alai Savant tour holler at us cause wed love to hear from you

its been forever since ive updated our site & so much has happend in the world of the The Jai alai Savant. For starters we just got home from a one month tour with label mates The Go Go Go Airheart & Subtitle down to the annual chaos in Texas known as South By Southwest.

The Tour was off to a questiionable start since it was our fisrt trip out in my newly aquired 87 chevy cargo van.Despite a few minor issues the van actually turned out to be quite a whorthwhile purchase as it hauled us all over the place & earned its official name "The Windy City WHip" (dubbed so by Subtitle).

Allthough not necesseraly that well attended in every city The shows were good & the response we got from people in most cases has been fantastic.Along the way we met a lot of very cool people. If you were somone that put us up ,took us out, played with us or simply were freindly to us i cant thank you enough for making our first offical long tour through the states a positive one & wed love to hear from you.Touring with our label mates was fun especially Subtitle he is one of the funniest most insane & creative genius types i have ever shared the road with. Dont be surprised if a Major Taylor /Subtitle colaboration pops up at some point

We where joined half way through the trip in Philly by Nash's lovely fiance Diana & My long time Lady friend Mary dougherty who accompanied us down to Florida it was fantastic having you both along for the trip we love you!!!!

One of the major hi lights of the tour was Orlando when wegot the chance to go to a real Jai alaI Court (or fronton as they call it ). We snapped a few shots & got to dick around on the court i will post photos soon. Nash & I tried to bet on a game but we couldnt figure out the rules & we didnt have enough time.

South By Southwest was the standard industry fare both fun & an overwhelming pain in the ass at times .The GSL show case was off the hook as was the Chunklet showcase.Big thanks to Sonny & Henry for bringing it all together. No trip to Austin would be complete without seeing our host family Stacy & Aaron there little doggie & thier crazy cat who refused to leave our van the day we had to leave.Major Taylor got a huge photo in the austin chronicle thanks to brilliant photographer Aubrey Edwards of the Boom Chica Boom go go crew im a bit bummed because i didnt get to see Beth at all during my trip. We mnged to run into quite a few Philly heads the most notable of which where our 2 new friends Rachel & Jenn.We met them because they were sitting in as bar next to the GSL showcase & i saw Rachel by the window & i had to say something because she could pass for Scarlete Johansson's stunt double. As it turned out they were reppin the 215 & wound up kicking it with us for the duration of our stay.Speaking of Philly, fellow Philly to Chicago export Krista Italiano flew
down to meet up with us & to experienced her 1st SXSW.So The Philadelphia Mastodons where in full effect in Austin. Major Taylor made his precence known at the Fader Cornerstone tent on the one's & two's & killed it despite the flow being interrupted by bands playing every half hour. I ran into Nick Catchdubs,Ayers & Cosmo Baker on the way to see the Flosstradamus crew wreck shit at an afterparty somewhere deep in the guts of Austin & apparently Both Ayers & Cosmo(of The Rub ) had just gotten into a fist fight with some clowns who decided to step to Ayres with some retardedness. But apparently they won by tko so word of advise Dont step to the 2 djs that Rub or you will get embarassed hahahaha. I caught up with homies Gramar Debate at a Redbull party where i had to rescue theyre keyboardist/singer & long time friend of mine Carolyne Macneil (also of Rarebirds) who had managed to party herself into oblivion & was face down in an alley.NO MORE REDBULL PARTIES FOR YOU GIRL

While in Austin We got to kick it with our favorate Germans & City Slang label proprietors Severin & Kristoph wh o dropped the news to us that we will most likley be touring with The Gossip in Europe in July. Our album Flight Of The Bass Delegate is coming along quite nicely i have 3 songs to finish vocal on & a few songs awaiting guet apperiences. Once its done it should drop in the states in Sept. & will be followed up in October by a one month nationwide tour with Chicago heavy hitters The Eternals & Watchers while on the road we will have official our 12 inches featuring a song from each band as well as a remix on the flipside. Both Watchers & The Eternals are planning on having thier albums drop in September as well.I have heard both records & let me tell you you people arent ready for the ruckus that both of these bands are about to drop on you.I was very proud of our album up to this point but when i heard the rough cuts of both theses records it dwarfed me. So im really lookin forward to this tour. We have been killing it on the press tip look for us in Alternative Press top 100 list as well as URB magazines up & coming issue. Apparently i was on Chicago Public Radio while on the road but i missed it so if anyone hear it or knows where i can geta copy holler at me i guess thats it for now stay tuned sometime next week for some photos

peace

The new year has been good to us thusfar

so much is happening in the world of the Jai alai Savant

we are gearing up to tour down to Texas for the yearly mayhem that is the South By Southwest music confrence where we will be putting our thing down at several parties & showcases for starters the GSL showcase which is going to be off the fuckin hook and of course the Chunklet party which im predicting will be equally out of control especially if its anything like last year so if your in Texas holler at us we'd love to kick it with you We are equally as excited to tour with our label mates The GoGOGo Airheart & Labwaste featuring my favorate 7 ft. tall avante rapper genious Giovanni Marks aka Subtitle There is also talk of a possible west cost tour with one of my favorate new acts off the French kiss label Rahim so be on the lookout Now that this rigorous touring schedule is in place there is one Major Detail missing ....a van the JS needs a new battle wagon so if anyone has a lead on a cheap van in good shape please drop us a line

also while we are on the road Dj Major Taylor is looking to shred on the decks & if any of you have seen him rip shit up on the turntables (perhaps at the closing night party at ATP along side Dj Nobody where a near riot insued )you know that he is more than just some hipster dude with records he is a bonifide party rocker !!!so if your looking to throw an after party for any of the shows listed he's the man to talk to

We have been in the Studio working on our full legth "Flight Of The Bass Delegate " & i am happy to say it has been coming along quite nicely We will keep you all abreast as things develop if all goes well 2006 will be the year of the Mastodon !!!!!

thats it for now more to come

love

So we just got back from tour & it was pretty damn cool. The Philly show was off the hook (of course )The Philadelphia Mastodons where in the fullest affect that night. We played with some killer ass bands Little Light ,& Nash's other band the mighty Aquila Rose both killed it. But the most pleasant surprise was opening act Rahim. They were fuckin awesome very nice guys too. If you get a chance check this band out. I was a bit bummed because they went on so early there wasnt nearly enough people there to see them lay it down.Check out theyre myspace thingee -
http://www.myspace.com/rahim The following night was New York at the Mercury Lounge another great show & we got to catch up with our euro-mates The Flesh as well as a few other good old friends.& My main man Elliot of The Simple Mission ( http://simplemission.typepad.com/) Afterwards it was over to a lil spot called Plan B to catch up with one of my favorite nightclub party rockers Cosmo Baker. While there we got to witness a girlfight it was kind of unsettling but i guess thats just what happens when Cosmo puts his thang down people just turn into animals

The next night it was off to Baltimore where i became reaccuainted with an old buddy Gary B of Gary B & The Notions who apparently was the biggest Franklin fan ever. Not only that but there were several other Franklin heads in the house including Dave who ran the studio Social Services where all the early Franklin releases where recorded.Just when I thought the trip down indie rock memory lane was complete a band called Baby Asprin took to the stage featuring none other than Colin 7 on drums for those of you not familiar with Collin, he was the singer of an extremely influental & energetic Gravity records band in the mid to late 90's Universal Order Of Armageddon Colin also gavce me my 1st tattoo. He is now living a happy life in Baltimore as a BMW motorcycle mechanic
& playing drums for Baby Asprin who were a lot of fun & reminicent of the Kill Rock Stars low fi hay day our set was a blast & we were recived well. After the show we went a few blocks away to a club called Sonar to catch the tail end of the infamous Taxidermy Lodge party hosted by the Baltimore man about town & Dj Cullen Stalin. Major Taylor has made quit a few apperences at the Tax Lo parties & they are off the hook. This one in particular was special because my long time friend & cohort Dj Low Budget was holding it down also in attendance was baltimore alumni Aaron La Crate afterward we retired to Loree's (of baby asprin ) awesome apartment thanks a million Loree

The Following night was Willmington NC it was at this crazy ass venue called the soapbox. It was a laundrymatt bar & show venue it was packed & we played with all these awesome balls out Rock bands the most notible for me was Valliant Thor they looked like vikings & the kicked some serious ass i was a bit worried about how we wopuld be recived but the crowd was very receptive & we were flodded with comliments afterwards. After the show it was off to our buddy Aarons house for the afterparty where we met a girl named Kristina who told us & showed us that she could out shake any girl on the dancefloor to Mike Jones & Paul Wall. She also informed us that she goes to school for poultry science but goats were really her thing ...man the south is a whole diffrent world
Then it was off to Chapple Hill where we caught up with our former bassist & good friend Mike Ali We played with cool band called A Roster For The Masses who had thi kind of dance punk meets early U2 kind of sound we also got to catch up with the people from RedEye Distro i personalt thought our set was so so but everyone there seemed to enjoy it the next morning was fun because we got to get in little qt time with Lauren Mikes lovely wife who we hadnt seen in a while & his fantasticly addorable 6 month old son Parker THE J.S. IS FOR THE CHILDREN !!!!!! we love you Mike

The following night it was DC at the velvet lounge we played to about 10 people but it was a very good vibe we played wih a band called Mahliki (i hope i spelled that right ) who fucking KILLED IT !!!!! even if it was only for us & the singer Carolyns mom. They where a 3 piece with a kind of jazzy alterna-soul sort of vibe all insane musicians.Carolyn was a wicked pianist with a voice that would make anyone melt it was such a shame that they played to so few people but if they keep at it i dont see why they wouldnt be super sucessfull.Thank god my good buddy's Karim Olechea & his girl Becky came out with a little crew or we would have played to no one but the soundguy. But judging by everyones reaction afterwards i think we managed to come out with a few Philadelphia Mastodon Converts

all and all it was a pretty fun little trip

on a side note i got in touch with Rebecca HORAY!!!!

stay tuned we got a lot of shit in the works

holler

Chicago-by-way-of-Philly trio THE JAI-ALAI SAVANT (pronounced hi-a-lie- sa-vant) have been active since 2002. Their list of influences are vast and their sound eclectic, but it's their reggae-slanted post-punk roots that take the foreground in the most recent music of the band. Their genre-bending pop compositions coupled with an obvious love of bass culture have drawn comparisons to everyone from the Clash to The Police, Trench mouth and Fugazi. Groove-oriented and accessible yet still engaging and challenging to the idea of what punk-derivative music should sound like is what makes THE JAI-ALAI SAVANT a breath of fresh air in an otherwise stale and hype-driven world of independent rock music.
